NAESB-accredited certificates for wholesale energy market participation
SSL.com is one of a limited number of Certificate Authorities accredited by the North American Energy Standards Board (NAESB) to issue WEQ-12 certificates. If your organization participates in FERC-regulated wholesale energy markets, NAESB-accredited client certificates are mandatory.
The mandatory PKI standard for North American wholesale energy markets
NAESB (North American Energy Standards Board) is the standards body for business practices and electronic communications in the North American wholesale and retail natural gas and electricity markets. The WEQ-12 standard defines the PKI and certificate requirements for authenticated electronic transactions in these markets.
Any organization transacting electronically in NERC/FERC-regulated wholesale energy markets (RTOs, ISOs, utilities, power generators, energy traders, and schedulers) must use certificates issued by a NAESB-accredited CA. SSL.com is a NAESB-accredited CA.
Key benefits
FERC/NERC compliance
WEQ-12 certificates from a NAESB-accredited CA satisfy FERC and NERC electronic authentication requirements: mandatory for transactions in wholesale energy markets and compliance-ready for NERC CIP-005 and CIP-007 bulk electric system controls.Strong cryptographic authentication
Certificate-based mutual TLS authentication cannot be phished, credential-stuffed, or replayed: a cryptographic assurance level far stronger than passwords or even multi-factor authentication against endpoint spoofing.Multi-system compatibility
Compatible with all major RTO/ISO market portals and NAESB-compliant trading platforms including OASIS Node, scheduling coordinator systems, capacity market platforms, and PJM, CAISO, ERCOT, MISO, and NYISO environments.API-driven issuance
Automate NAESB certificate issuance, renewal, and revocation via SSL.com’s SWS REST API. Integrate directly with energy trading and scheduling systems for hands-free certificate lifecycle management at operational scale.Who needs NAESB certificates?
